New Skills in Organizations

Thai Summary

Global Effectiveness Training (GET)* offers New Skills communication and relationship training courses designed to teach executives, managers and producers how to effectively relate and influence each other in ways that contribute to both organizational and personal success. GET's New-Skills training gives practical and powerful skills and tools to teams, departments and individuals operating in today's diverse, multicultural and fast changing workplace.

Personal influence is one of several ways people pursue their goals. Highly respectful personal influence is effectively achieved using interpersonal communication skills and personal awareness. Personal influence plays a particularly crucial role in collective enterprises such as companies and other goal oriented organizations. The New Skills provide both the tools and the confidence to empower individuals to be highly successful.

An organization's success is determined in large part by two communication quotients. One is the ability of leadership to successfully articulate and communicate, though out the organization, its vision and goals. The second is the quality of interpersonal communication and personal influence within the organization. In a highly functioning organization personal and organizational goals are in alignment. Skilled communicators, using personal influence, are able to negotiate with one another to create a collective, synergistic strategy that furthers both organizational and personal goals.

The New-Skills produce leadership qualities

Leaders will learn how to be pro-active and use integrity, understanding and respect to communicate vision, motivate and solve problems in the workplace. They won't back away from conflict and other difficult issues. Leaders and managers will learn how to articulate goals, set agendas, understand expectations, hopes, fears and give honest, empathic performance feedback. Management's objectives are understood and appreciated. Goals are linked with employee's individual resource needs. The results are mutually agreed on goals, 'synergy', cooperation, 'win/win' resolutions and a high quality product.

Trainees will learn to use the New-Skills to:

  • Listen and understand on multi-levels and give useful, honest and respectful responses.
  • Establish shared goals, delegate authority and assess performance realistically and constructively.
  • Identify, understand and bridge intercultural and value differences.
  • Be personally empowered, express explicit expectations, share resources and cooperate willingly.
  • Confidently identify and proactively resolve conflicts that diminish his/her productivity and wellbeing.
  • Work creatively with inter-personal, organizational and task-related challenges.
  • Contribute to a comfortable workplace that values honesty, trust, respect and quality.

The New Skills build personal confidence and influence

Many employees would contribute more if they had the self-confidence to offer their opinions and ideas. The New-Skills build personal confidence and provide the tools necessary to relate and communicate in ways that feel increasingly acceptable and are respectful, powerful and appropriate for getting what is needed to be successful. Trainees learn about who they are, as individuals, and how they relate to other people and exercise personal influence. Participants are actively involved in group-learning, role-plays and strategy exercises.

The New-Skills have intercultural applications

GET teaches a way of communicating and relating that has intercultural and, indeed, global applications. The New Skills can bridge value and culture based differences. Many times being honest and direct is vital to personal and organizational success, but at the same time being respectful and non-offensive also has very high value. The New-Skills make it possible to give feedback honestly to another person in a way that avoids offending and alienating them. In a cross-cultural workplace the importance of being able to speak freely and openly about perceptions and expectations can't be over emphasized. Management and employees will both welcome the new choices for productive and useful exchanges of ideas that the New-Skills provide.

GET cares about and respects each individual's learning goals.

GET encourages the discovery - or re-discovery - of what is truly important in each of our lives. To be effective and responsible in the workplace, our professional and personal values must be in harmony. Trainees will gain increased clarity about what is at the heart of their own professional ambition. They will learn to prioritize and develop strategic choices to move pro-actively toward their goals and be on the way to finding personal satisfaction in their professional lives.

GET produces long-term results

Honestly, we don't adopt new ways of communicating easily or quickly. GET's training sessions are spaced apart to allow time to practice - on the job - using the New-Skills. That 'hands-on' learning experience is reviewed and then enhanced by broader learning and training. This type of learning reinforces and integrates the use of New-Skills in a way that insures practical and continued long-term benefits for the trainee and the organization.
